Welcome, and thank you for signing up to the site. If you haven't already read it, and you're at all interested, there is a page describing the history of how this site came to be. Regardless of whether you are interested in the background, there are a few pointers that will help you get the most out of your time here.
Who comes here?
We expect - and get - three main groups of people visiting this site:
- People who want to know where they can see some comedy in London
- Promoters who want to tell the world about their gigs
- Budding (or seasoned, or even professional) comedians who want to know where they can perform
Regardless of which group you are in, you'll find a lot of information here that will help you. And on the subject of help, if you get stuck with anything, it's always worth checking out the Help menu if you get stuck with anything. It also provides a description of what you can find in each of the menus - The Gig Calendar, The Gig Guide, etc. Admittedly, as the site has grown and evolved, it has been a bit difficult to keep the help text up to date, so if you would like to contribute something back to the community of people who use this site, and want to volunteer to write some help pages, please get in touch with the webmaster ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The Gig Guide
The main part of the site is The Gig Guide, which contains a wealth of information about open mic comedy gigs in London (sometimes quite a broad definition of London, admittedly). Any registered member can add an entry to the guide, and we encourage you to create an entry for any gig that you know about and which we currently don't have - that way, everyone can benefit from the information being shared. We can always transfer ownership of the entry over to the promoter of the gig at a later date.
Commenting on gigs and updating gig information
We also strongly encourage people to provide feedback on gigs that they have done. Now, some folks very wisely prefer not to slag a gig off, and so are reluctant to submit a negative review. That's fine - if you want to take that approach, just submit reviews for gigs that you enjoyed.
More importantly, please give us feedback if any of our information is wrong, out of date, or if you discover that the gig is no longer running. That way we can keep the list up to date.
Facebook updates
We do our best to help with that anyway. We get lots of Facebook (and other) updates about the various gigs, and post them directly onto the web site. If there's a corresponding entry in The Gig Guide, we link the two together if we can, so that when you look at a gig in The Gig Guide, you can see any recent updates about that gig, and that's a handy way of telling whether the gig is still alive. It's not perfect - some of the major gigs (Comedy Cafe, Downstairs @ The King's Head, and King Gong @ The Comedy Store) don't post updates, but they are very regular gigs.
What not to assume
Another thing to bear in mind is that this site provides information about the gig, but we can't guarantee that all of that information is up to date all the time - please check before you turn up somewhere! In a similar vein, it's unlikely you'll be able to book a spot at a gig by leaving a message on this site. Much better to contact the promoter directly. What the site will give you is the necessary contact information - assuming we have it.
Guide vs Calendar
The information in The Gig Guide is usually quite static - it tells you where the venue is, how often it runs, how to book a spot, what time it starts, etc. The Gig Calendar, on the other hand, is used to advertise specific dates on which gigs are running. That might sound a bit confusing, but it's simply that with so many gigs, often running at odd times (e.g. the third Monday of every month), it's not easy to keep track of when they are all happening. So a gig can be added to the calendar, and then it's very clear when it is happening. As with the Gig Guide, anyone can add to the calendar.
Say "hello"
Fill in as much detail in your profile as you are comfortable with, and upload a picture of yourself to make it a bit more real. And join in - almost every page on this site allows you to comment. Go wild. Comment. Share your thoughts. Talk about stuff. Don't be shy. And if there's something you think would improve the site, let us know. We've recently added a discussion forum, too, so there's now somewhere on the site that allows you interact with other members.
Have fun.
Kenny Campbell
