The Gig Guide is a collection of information about regular open mic gigs available in and around London.  It is built in the same was as the Funny People directory, but uses different categories and provides different information, becase after all, a gig and a comedian are two very different things.

Any registered user of the site can add gigs to The Gig Guide.  Instructions for doing that are provided in the help files for registered users.

If you aren't registered, The Gig Guide will let you browse through all the gigs for which we have information.  Gigs are organised into categories and sub-categories, and any one gig can appear in up to five sub-categories:

  • Day to day
    • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, etc.
  • By price
    • Free, £2.50 or less, etc.
  • By conditions
    • None, bring audience, pay to play, restricted (e.g. Irish acts only)
  • By booking type
    • Pre-book, sign-up, mixed, by invitation
  • By gig type
    • Standard, standard with pro spots, gong show, variety show, improv, other

When you click on a category or sub-category, either from The Gig Guide menu, or within the main screen, the list of gigs (which are initially shown in a way that makes them look a bit like business cards) will be filtered so that it only shows gigs in the category or sub-category that you have selected.

If you click on the name of a gig on one of those business cards, or on the thumbnail picture (if there is one), you will be shown the full set of details for that gig, including (usually) a map to the venue, and other useful information such as transport links, how often the show runs, etc.

The Gig Guide is great as a source of standard information about gigs.  What it usually won't provide is the actual date that the gig is next running.  For that, the best thing is to check The Gig Calendar, or to check any Facebook page or web site associated with the gig.
