I did a spot at this gig in early January 2011, and really enjoyed it. It seems to have several advantages over many similar gigs, specifically:
Nick Ewans runs a pretty tight ship - you know when you're on, you know how long you've got, and he keeps things moving. The show started shortly after 20:30, and was over by 22:15. Much better for acts and audience.
The location is great - central, easy to find, easy access to public transport.
There is a much better proportion of Actual Audience™ than you get in many gigs. In fact, the night I did it, audience outnumbered acts by a factor of a least four or five to one.
There is one downside. The toilets for the whole venue (there is a busy pub upstairs) are accessed via the room where the comedy happens, and the ladies is right next to the stage. Any lady spending a penny is obliged to walk across the front of the stage to get there and back. The gents is as the back of the room, so that's less intrusive.
However, I didn't find the toilet visitors especially distracting (some acts seem to, audience seem not to be distracted at all), and the sound that leaks downstairs as would-be pissers come in and out isn't too bad. All in all, a very small price to pay for a very excellent and enjoyable gig.
